Today, ReFrame and IMDBPro announced the 20 Certified Gender-Balanced Films of 2018. ‘The Spy Who Dumped Me’ is one of the recipients of the 2018 ReFrame Stamp among the Top 100 Grossing Films! You can read more about the certification below.
The ReFrame coalition of industry leaders and IMDBPro have unveiled 20 movies certified as gender-balanced productions among the top 100 box office films released in 2018.
The list includes Disney’s “A Wrinkle in Time,” Paramount Pictures’ “Bumblebee,” Fox Searchlight Pictures’ “The Favourite,” STX’s “I Feel Pretty,” Lionsgate’s “The Spy Who Dumped Me,” Fox’s “The Hate U Give,” and Warner Bros.’ “Crazy Rich Asians.”
ReFrame, founded by Women in Film and the Sundance Institute, launched the data initiative last June in an effort to recognize and promote gender-balanced films and television shows. It said Wednesday that the increase in recipients of the ReFrame Stamp from 12 in 2017 to 20 stemmed from gains in the roles of department heads and women-of-color leads and co-leads. Still, the report noted that there remained shortfalls in several key areas.
“This positive news within the top 100 films is offset by the significant discrepancy in female hires with only four women directors as compared to six in 2017 — and only one of those directors being a woman of color,” it said. “Additionally, the numbers continue to reveal huge disparities in female representation and women of color with only 23% of the top 100 films being written by a female. Only 37% percent of the top 100 films featured female leads, with 9% being women of color.”
Paul Feig, who received a ReFrame stamp for “A Simple Favor,” said in the announcement that he is hopeful the certification will become as important as the MPAA rating for audiences to help them find films that uphold their beliefs and standards.
“The ReFrame Stamp is a great motivating tool in the march toward parity in our industry,” Feig said. “I am always
hyper awareof its criteria and importance whenever I’m looking for new projects, developing them, and putting together our casts and crews. And as an ambassador for ReFrame, I am always trying to make the people I both work with and meet in the industry understand the Stamp and how to qualify for it.”
“Crazy Rich Asians” producer Nina Jacobson said, “The ReFrame Stamp provides something we’ve never had before, a concrete measurement of a producer’s commitment to parity and the language to acknowledge that commitment. It is also an incredibly useful tool that I use as a guide when we staff our productions.”

Variety reports that the Untitled Roger Ailes Project is set to be released on December 20. We have little information about Kate’s role in the movie, but hopefully, this means we’re getting more news soon. You can read more about the movie below!
Lionsgate has set an awards-season release of Dec. 20, 2019, for the untitled Fox News-Roger Ailes sexual harassment film starring Charlize Theron and Nicole Kidman.
Lionsgate bought the movie after Annapurna decided last October to back out of the project due to budgetary concerns. The cast also includes John Lithgow, Kate McKinnon, and Margot Robbie. The film is directed by Jay Roach (“Trumbo”) and written by Academy Award winner Charles Randolph (“The Big Short”).
The movie focuses on Ailes’ downfall as seen through the eyes of a group of female employees. Kidman will play Gretchen Carlson, the Fox News anchor who sued Ailes for harassment in 2016, and Theron will portray Megyn Kelly, whose decision to go public with her own story of abuse became a key turning point.
Lithgow will play Ailes and Malcolm McDowell is on board as News Corp chairman Rupert Murdoch. Robbie will portray a fictional Fox News producer named Kayla Pospisil. Allison Janney, Mark Duplass, Alice Eve, Brigette Lundy-Paine, Liv Hewson, and Alanna Ubach will also appear in the movie.
Ailes resigned in July 2016 from his post as chairman and CEO of Fox News and Fox Television Stations. He died in 2017.
The movie is being produced and co-financed by Bron Studios. It will have formidable competition in the Dec. 20 slot with Universal opening its movie version of “Cats” and Disney launching “Star Wars: Episode IX.”Source: Variety
Audible announced today that the new audio series from Kate McKinnon and her sister Emily Lynne, ‘Heads Will Roll‘, is set to be released on May 2nd. They also revealed the cover art for the show. Read more about it below and check out the cover art in our gallery!
Audible has released the cover art for “Heads Will Roll,” the audiobook giant’s first foray into comedy originals.
Set to launch May 2nd, the absurdist 10-episode medieval series comes from the minds of “Saturday Night Live” cast member Kate McKinnon and her sister Emily Lynne, who both star.
McKinnon plays the evil Queen Mortuana of the Night Realm, while Lynne will voice her ditsy raven minion JoJo. After they receive a prophecy about an imminent peasant uprising, the pair must journey to find the “Shard of Acquiescence,” which will put down the rebellion and save the throne. Listeners will find out if their friendship will survive the perils of politics, which entails sensitive generals, chatty sex slaves, whiny behemoths, princes with bird fetishes, and the notion of democracy.
The raunchy satire also includes the talents of Andrea Martin, Carol Kane, Audra McDonald, Aidy Bryant, Alex Moffat, Heidi Gardner, Chris Redd, Steve Higgins, Bob the Drag Queen, Esther Perel, and more.
“’Heads Will Roll’ is a one of a kind, genre-bending series that takes audiences on a wild ride as it combines hilarious narrative storytelling, music and brutally sharp wit,” said David Blum, Editor in Chief of Audible Originals. “We simply can’t wait for Audible listeners to experience this wry and genius comedy from two talented sisters and an all-star cast.”
In February, Variety reported exclusively that Audible had struck a deal with Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video to create multiple audio-only original comedy programs for its listeners. The show is executive produced by Broadway Video’s Britta von Schoeler and produced by Austin Breslow. Will Rogers and Ian Stearns are executive producers for Audible.
Although Audible previously developed comedic fiction and memoirs, the new partnership marks the audiobook company’s first venture into long-form scripted comedy originals, according to Blum.Source: Variety
